Funny Things About Nueva Ecija
I was born in Nueva Ecija but never actually had the chance to live there. I occasionally visit the place and i can say that i have pretty good experiences to share. I never give much attention to the place until I met a dorm mate who actually lived there all her life until college.
It is funny to talk about her about few things that will make you laugh about the culture of people in Nueva Ecija
1. All house will serve sopas and fruit salad during Christmas
I thought that it was a coincidence to be served sopas and fruit salad five times out of seven houses I visited last Christmas. It was only after talking with dorm mate that i have understood this practice. I am thinking of blogging about the mystery behind this one of this days. what you think?
2. Murmuring is Normal
I don't want to conclude that mothers from Nueva Ecija are born gossipers. But in case you are new in the place, expect to see mothers on their 40s to murmur as you pass by. Don't be alarmed, they are not saying anything against you, they are just tracing the family tree.
3. Pagmamano is a Must
Pinoys have shift from po and opo to hey mom, and that's okay. But if you are to visit Nueva Ecija, please do yourself a favor of getting back to traditional respect gestures. Paagmamano is highly expected by the elderly people and failing to do this will damage your reputation. This may be funny to most teen agers but i can see the beauty of having our own way of showing respect. I believe that there are several ways to respect, but it is always wonderful to have somehting unique and so us.
After laughing with her, i came to realize that it remains to be heartwhelming to talk about your roots. Good or bad, talking about your place can make you pause for a while and miss something.
